    DVC Block & Bridle Club presents awards

DOYLESTOWN - The
Delaware Valley College’s Block
and Bridle Club recently held its
annual awards banquet at Ben
tley’s in nearby Warminister.
The awards portion of the
evening opened with the Out
standing senior award. This year it
was presented to two seniors,
Steve Trestle and Bret Defrance.
Both have been active in the club
for the past four years and have
participated in all of the club’s
activities.
The next award was the out
standing Block and Bridle
Member. This award went to Irene
Brown, a junior animal husbandry
major who has been described as
“a terrific asset to the club”.
A scholarship of $250.00 was
awarded to Steve Majrek. This
scholarship award is based on
scholastic ability, club activities,
outside activities, and future plans
in the animal husbandry field.

team was also honored for its
activities this past year. Their best
contest was the Eastern States
Exposition where they were the
third highest team overall and
Kenneth Novak was the high in
dividual. Members of the 1983
judging team included Teresa
Verdefame. Mark Miller, Beth
Claypoole, Kenneth Novak, Todd
Hesse and Steve Trostle. The team
was coached by Rodney Gilbert,
livestock superintendent at the
college and advisor to the Block
and Bridle Club.
The students then made a couple
of presentations of their own. The
1983 judging team gave Gilbert a
mascot and a challenge for the 1984
judging team to do even better
than they had done. They also gave
Mrs. Frederick Hofsaess a gift
certificate in appreciation for her
help and understandirig while her
husband, Dr. Hofsaess, advisor
and chairman of the animal
husbandry department, was busy
with the club activities.

This year also marked the first
time the equestrian team held
their awards in conjunction with
the Block and Bridle banquet.
These awards were presented by
co-captains Michele Smith and
Megan Allen. The senior award
went to Kathleen Gill and John
Melora. The other awards were:
Most sportsmanship, Cindy
Sharpe; Most improved rider,
Pam Hojonowski; Most team
spirit, Beth Meny; and the cap
tain’s award which went to Lisa
Martini.
The guest speaker for the
evening was Anthony G. Dobrosky,
York County Extension Director
and this year’s recipient of the
Penn State Department of Animal
Science Alumni Award. The title of
his speech was “The Icing to Your
Cake” and he shocked some
members of the audience with his
opening statement that he “doesn’t
give a darn about grades in
college”. He then went on to ex-
