HARRISBURG Twenty-seven farms were designated official Pennsylvania Century Farms during 1983, bringing the total number of Century Farms in the commonwealth to 845, according to Penrose Hallowell, State Agriculture Secretary. Hallowell said, “The Century Farms Program was established to help publicize the strengths and durability of our farm families which have contributed so much to our commonwealth’s economic and agricultural heritage. For more than 200 years our farm families have kept Pennsylvania growing better, as the leading agricultural state in the Northeast. Our 59,000 farm families produce more than $3 billion annually in farm products and help make agriculture Pennsylvania’s number one industry.” To be recognized as a Century Farm by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the farm must be owned by the same family for 100 consecutive years to the date of application, and a family member must presently live on the farm. The farm must consist of at least ten acres of the original holding. The Secretary urged other Pennsylvania farm families who qualify for the Century Farm honors to make application for the Jr- 'tSi 7/ 'S' Automation and Control in Starting and Growing Pullets TIL equipment n i company ’ |Nc - ISSSMufe! <—J C_i Duignirs of Quality Syttoni for Poultry, Sorina an i Grain Handing Century Farm total reaches Pa, program and “show your Keystone Pride.” Following are the present farm owners recognized in 1983, with year of purchase by their an cestors: BERKS COUNTY.
