AlB—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 17,1984 Delmarva sets poultry fund goal GEORGETOWN, Del. - Paul E. Ferrier, Salisburg, Md., fund drive general chairman and first vice president of Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. (DPI), announced during a recent fund drive kick-off meeting that the goal for the 1984 DPI campaign has been set at $295,000. DPI is a non-profit trade association that represents all phases of the area’s multi-million dollar poultry industry and related interests and works for the con tinued progress of the poultry industry on the Delmarva Peninsula. One of DPl’s primary objectives durmg the past several months has been to coordinate efforts to prevent the spread of avian flu to Delmarva’s con centrated broiler industry. Donald W. Mabe, president and chief executive officer of Perdue Farms Incorporated, Salisbury, Md., was the featured speaker for the evening. Mabe, who served as president of DPI in 1973, praised the work of the organization in its numerous areas of activity. He also commented on the many hours of time and talent that are given freely by industry people toward the accomplishment of DPl’s goals. Nearly 200 volunteer workers from communities throughout Delmarva were in attendance and reported a total of cash and pledges collected to date of $189,203. These “investments” to DPI will be used for industry related research, educational programs, legislative activities and the promotion of chicken. Ferner, who is general manager of G & M Sales of Salisbury, thanked the workers for their accomplishments to date but noted that there is much hard work ahead in order to meet the $295,000 goal.
