    at Butler Holstein banquet

PROSPECT Butler County
Holstein Club recently held their
annual buffet-style banquet at
Garden Gate Restaurant,
Prospect. Howard Halstead,
president, conducted the afternoon
business meeting, highlighting the
youth achievements. Each Butler
County 4-H member “delighted”
the audience by reporting on then
past years project work.
Jean Rummer, 13-year old
daughter of Lee and the Rev.
Rosalynn Rummer, Evans City,
was cited the Butler County
Holstein Girl. A junior Holstein
member for five years, she has
raised four registered Holsteins on
the Lehearth family farm. A five
year member of the county dairy
club she was selected the 1983
Outstanding Junior Member.
Active in the club’s activities she’s
also quite familiar with the show
ring.
Five junior holstein members
\yere recognized for their milk/fat
records. Diane Hogg, Slippery
Rock, had the top two-year-old fat
record of 663 with “Altwi Optimist
Happy Nicole” and the three-year
old top milk record of 21,178 with
“Altwi Star Happy Stacey.”
“Nicole” produced 16,966 lbs. of
milk with “Stacey” making 665 of
butterfat, both in 305 days.
“Neely-Farms Topper Cotton”,
owned by Harold Rader Jr.,
Connoquenessing, took the two
year-old milk record with 17,435 in
305 days. Taking second in the fat
of 572. Gary Wible, Butler,
received the top three-year-old fat
record of 722 with “Wible Farm
Petty Abbey.” She was second in
milk production with 20,768.
Lona Rader, Connoquenessing,
took both honors of milk/fat in the
four-year-old competition with
“Rader Bootmaker Lucille”. Her
completed record was 19,979 of
milk and 677 butterfat in 305 days.
“Renault Joy Exceprion
Jackie”, owner Jackie Reno,
Valencia, was the top five-year-old
winner. In 292 days, she produced
15,669 of milk and 601 of butterfat,
receiving both milk/fat honors.
Wendell Smith, Butler, was
honored by Doug Hershey, of the
Penna. Holstein staff, receiving
the 1983 membership service
award in the state for retaining
sixteen new members.
Two directors were elected to
each serve three year terms.
Bradley Cooper, Slippery Rock
and Wendell Smith, retained the
position.
Directors appointed the
following as officers and com
mittee chairman: President.
George Dean, Chicora; Vice
President, Norman Graham,
Connoquenessing; Secretary/Tr
easurer, John Bahme, Zelienople;
Youth Director, Graham; Show
Chairman, David Leslie, Con
noquenessing; Sales Represen
tative, Ken Scheidemantle,
Harmony; Sale of Stars Chairman,
Leroy Hogg, Slippery Rock; and
State Representative is Lee
Kummer, Evans City.
County Agent, Robert Rugaber
announced the Twilight meeting
set for Aug. 1 at Ro-Haven Farm,
George and Peggy Dean, Chicora.
Dairy tour on April 3 to
Washington County is in progress.
