Omaha Livestock
Thursday, March 8,1984
Fed Cattle prices on the Omaha
terminal ranged up 50-1.50 for the
week, due mainly to reduced
salable numbers. Buyer demand
proved good from day-to-day even
though dressed beef prices posted
no better than steady trends.
Purchases of 1000-1100 lb. ‘short
fed’ steers provided additional
support to the market. Overall
finish showed some improvement
with an increased number of
choice kinds on sale; but mud still
a big problem in the trade. Cows
1.50-3.00 higher. Bulls fully steady.
Estimated 5 day receipts 8,300;
Actuals last week 9,517 and 10,564
last year. Steers comprised 41 pet
of the week’s receipts; heifers 40
pet; cows 10 pet; feeders 8 pet.
SLAUGHTER STEERS: At the
closes, choice 24 1050-1300 lbs.

THE
INSIDE
STORY.
A closer look at what you
should know before settling
on any antibiotic.
The inside story Is the information you
need to better Judge, choose end use
injectable antibiotics for your hogs. It’s a
closer look at how Tyian* Injection works
Insld e livestock. And, It can show you how
to get sick hogs back on thsir feet, back on
their teed, fast.
First, consider the Importance of tissue
drug levels vs. blood levels. For years,
antibiotics were Judged according to how
much of the drug remained in the blood
over a specified time. Although high
antibiotic levels in the blood are Important,
they may not be the beat indicators of a
drug’s effectiveness. The reason
is . . . most major livestock diseases are
not Infections of the blood. Generally,
they’re caused by infections of a particular
organ, such as the lung. Invading disease
organisms attack the tissue—the mass of
ceTls which actually makes up the organ. To
be effective, an antibiotic must quickly
move to the tissue where the disease
causing infection occurs.
How does Tylan injection stack up in
tissue studies? Recent research com
pleted by Elanco scientists continues to
show that lyian Injection actively moves
into, through and out of the bloodstream.
It quickly gets to the infection site—the
lung tissue in the case of pneumonia—for
fast, effective treatment.
RESULTS IN PIGS
TYLAN ’ 200 INJECTION a! 4 ml/100 lb
bodyweight/day* for 3 days
The results of the experiment show that levels of
Tyien, measured tn parts per million, were over five
times greater In diaeaaed lung tissue than blood
levels at six hours after the last injection
' Divided into two daily injections for swine
Now, government clearances allow you
to use Tylan 200 at the higher level of 4
ml/100 lb. bodyweight/day (divided into two
daily injections for swine). More than ever,
you can depend on Tylan Injection, the Big
