CONVENTION SALE Highlighting the Maryland Holstein Convention was the selling of 58 head of high quality Holsteins during the convention sale Wednesday. Topping the list of cattle sold, a majority of which were calves and heifers, was a 3-year-old cow consigned by Savage-Leigh Farms, Boyds. Savage-Leigh Chief Honey was bought by James Holler, Jamestown, Pa., for $lO,OOO. Second high-seller, sold for $8,400, was 3-year-old Fair-Hill Glendell Roxy-ET. Consigned by Fair Hill Farm, Chestertown, the cow was sold to Cal Andring of Washington, D.C. Coldsprings Chairman Nohow- ET, a September 1983 heifer, was third high-seller at $8,200. Marlin Hoff, New Windsor, consigned the heifer which was bought by Brigeen Farms Inc., Turner, Farm, Grantsville, and bought by and Kingstead Valiant Amy, Maine. Maryland juniors receive awards BY LAURA ENGLAND NORTH EAST, MD. - Junior members of the Maryland Holstein Association capped off a successful year in 1983 and were recognized for their efforts Tuesday night during the Md. Holstein Con vention banquet. Recalling last year’s junior activities, Bobbie King, junior committee chairman, said the highlight of 1983 was the presen tation of 16 record book awards as well as three production awards. Other activites included par ticipation at the National Holstein Convention, state fairs and support for 4-H and FFA dairy programs and shows. The junior production awards went to Kenny King, Church Hill, Scott Stanford, Gaithersburg, and Susan Stonesifer, Union Bridge.
