PA 16232 PH. 814-797-5122 BY DONNA McCONAUGHEY PRESCOTT Lebanon county residents attending the annual extension banquet enjoyed a Spotlight on 4-H” The highlight of that spotlight was speaker, George Cashel, a Franklin county 4-H leader. Cashel has been involved in several aspects of 4-H including speaking on a state level to legislators in support of funding for extension, and particularly 4-H. With a bold directness and a country-style sense of hunior, he dug into many facts about 4-H. Every 4-H leader has thought, Is it really worth it' (all the time given to 4-H)” The answer is a resounding Yes'" after listening to Cashel for only a few minutes. His challenges included, “What would you do without Extension agents’” 'Our county agent gives up many a night with his son to give time to 4-H’ers.” Some of his final comments included, 'The good Lord gave us all 24 hours in a day. Farmers have tried to make it 25, but we all have the same amount of time. It’s what you do with that time that counts. Don’t lose 4-H. It’s our future, it’s our tomorrow. They’re going to make the laws in the future Kids are worth if” Another part of the "Spotlight on 4-H" was Deb Holies and her Leader Dog trainee, Deb was recently named a National Winner in Dog Care and Training In addition to a brief talk about her 4-H involvement, Deb answered questions from the audience about working with a future Leader Dog.
