"Spraying in the spring only kills
the top of the weeds and sup
presses them, but they soon build
back up,” Yocum explained.
He suggested controlling the
weeds by planting small grams
and then using the heavier rates of
herbicides after the grain is off. Or
controlling after cutting an early
corn hybrid for silage.
But he suggested the best
method is to spot spray as clumps
of weeds show up and avoid the
later higher cost of a full spraying
program.
