Each animal, in addition to being placed in class, will receive an overall live index. The next day the steers will be slaughtered and evaluated. Each carcass will receive an index based upon yield grade, percent retail yield and quality. The grand championship overall will be determined by 50 percent live index and 50 percent carcass index. To nominate a steer the owner must provide the steer’s birth date, the registration number of the sire and dam, the name and address of the breeder, the date of purchase, a nose print of the steer and the name and address of the owner. Steers must be calved on or after January 1,1983 and must meet the visual requirements for Angus registration except that animals with “excessive white” will be eligible to compete. The show is open to all junior, life or regular members of the American Angus Association who are at least 9 years old but not more than 21 years old as of January 1,1984.
