Sales of bagged apples are showing
a moderate increase this week
while traypacked apples sales are
declining. Ten representative
growers, packers, shippers
reported selling 12,127 cartons of
bagged apples and 2,110 cartons of
traypacked apples. Several
brokers throughout the apple
producing area report that interest
is high among chain store and
independent buyers over the Apple

1982, there were one billion bushels
of apples produced throughout the
world. The United States produces
about 1/5 of this volume. The apple
bowl of the world is Europe which
as a collection of countries,
produces about 1/2 of the total
world production. Thus, if the
United States is to compete, we
must do so aggressively in terms of
price, promotion, supply stability
and with a high quality product.
