BY LAURA ENGLAND NEW HOLLAND - A Penn Manor High School graduate was named the recipient of the James E. Martin Swine Achievement Award during the Lancaster and Chester County Swine Producers Association annual banquet Feb. 3. Jeff Geriach, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Geriach of Washington Boro, received the honor. A 1983 graduate of Penn Manor High School, Jeff purchased his first gilt while in the eighth grade and has since then improved his offspring. Gerlach wins field Corporation in the sow operation, Jeff is interested in getting into the swine business and plans to someday rent a farm. In addition to swine, he also raises steers and grows tobacco. The James E. Martin Award is presented to a student who has “excelled in the swine industry ” The award is rotated among FFA and 4-H members in Lancaster and Chester counties.
