The session is one of three held by Eastern each year to debate and adopt Association policy. Eastern has 4,300 dairy fanner members throughout Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware and Vermont. An important duty of delegates to the Tuesday meeting will be to approve a budget for the organization’s next fiscal year, beginning April 1. A budget proposal has been approved by the Board of Directors for presen tation to delegates. Eastern is on track to end the present fiscal year with a surplus of nearly $500,000 as a result of growing membership numbers and tight cost controls. Considering this performance the dues paid by Eastern members will remain the same as they have been for the last several years. The budget to be presented for adoption is based on nearly 2 billion pounds of member milk, up more than 200,000 million pounds from the fiscal year ending March 31,1984. The cooperative has had a steady growth in membership resulting from the elimination of extra marketing charges to milk producers and marketing af Pest control workers NEWARK, Del. A short course for Delaware pest control operators will be held Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 15-16, at Clayton Hall on the University of Delaware north campus. This will be one of the last opportunities for individual PCOs to receive recertification credits for the December 1984 deadline. A full eight credits will be given, so applicators can obtain ail the credits needed to recertify by attending the two-day course. Topics to be covered include rodent control, insect iden tification, personnel relations, stored product pests, fleas and ticks. There will also be talks on the misapplication of pesticides, HEWEY WELDING Box 2312, Rd 4, Lebanon, PA 17042 717-867-5222 ALUMINUM GRAIN BOUIES & ALUMINUM REPAIRS These ultra-light bodies are designed for strength through engineering, not strength with bulk. During the last fiscal year, for instance, Eastern strengthened its marketing presence in Vermont through the development of new markets and the affiliation of Northern Farms and Richmond cooperatives. Michael Donovan, General Manager of Eastern, said, “We have a strong commitment to marketing in Vermont, and Eastern is seen as an important alternative for Vermont dairy farmers.” Donovan said the af filiation with Richmond Cooperative could soon become a full merger, with a proposal of merger set for ratification soon by the two organizations. Richmond Cooperative, like earlier affiliated Northern Farms Cooperative, contributes dues and equity equal to that paid by direct Eastern members. Representatives of both affiliates will attend the Eastern Delegate meeting. Eastern President, Earl For wood, of Hop Bottom, PA, will call the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Elected to the highest office of the cooperative last October, Forwood said, “I expect this meeting of delegates to be up-beat and positive. Eastern’s performance in marketing and membership has steadily improved, which has raised the pride of the membership m our organization.” controversial aspects of termite control, miscellaneous wood destroying organisms, a panel discussion on wood-destroying insects, safety and PCO, en venomation, plus an update on the recertification process. “The course isn’t just for PCOs,” says University of Delaware ex tension entomologist Mark Graustein. “It’s also open to anyone interested in learning more about these subjects.
