Stenciling and stitchery
As fast as candlewicking is to do,
stenciling can help you speed work
time even further. By painting a
background design on your can
dlewicking project, you’ll have less
space to stitch and less time
needed for stitchery.
The “Americana Stencil” folkart
design, by American artist Charles
Wysoki, shows one way to combine
stenciling with stitchery. The
design, available as a pillow or
picture kit through the address
below, comes complete with
colored threads for stitching the
candlewicking details.
In the Americana kit shown, the
stencil design is already screen
printed on the fabric. If you wish to
stencil your own design on a
candlewicking project, however,
the technique is easy to learn.
Stenciling, like candlewicking,
has its roots in colonial times. In
America’s early years, craft
speople wandered from town to
town, painting floors, furniture and
walls in exchange for room and
board.
Since they share a colonial
heritage, stenciling and can
dlewicking work naturally well
