new belt feeder has been in
troduced by A. 0. Smith Har
vestore Products, Inc., company
spokesmen have announced. This
product, the model 521 belt feeder,
features a plow-rotary brush
diverter to efficiently sweep feed
from a moving belt.
For selection versatility, the
feeder is also available with a
spinning brush diverter. Both
diverter selections allow feeding
on either side of the belt. The
product is available with a 12-in.
wide delivery belt in lengths up to
325 ft. to fit a variety of feedlot
designs.
A similar product, the model 530
belt feeder, is available only with
16-in. wide belting and a spinning

Wastes drainage system debuts
DELPHIA, Ind. A new wastes
drainage system for sow farrowing
crates in confinement buildings,
using polyethylene plastic pans
has just been introduced by the
Farmcraft Agri-Systems division
of Underhill Industries, Inc., P. 0.
Box 256, Delphi, Ind. It makes the
old manure pits under confinement
buildings obsolete, the makers
claim.
With this new system, wastes are
removed from the buildings more
frequently (every few days) and
more easily An important result is
that there is much less formation
of noxious gases and foul odors.
Animal health is improved and
there is less stress on baby pigs,
making earlier weaning possible.
There is considerable saving of
fuel to heat and ventilate the
farrowing building.
Instead of manure dropping
through the floor into a pit below,
the wastes drop into a contoured
plastic pan just beneath the floor.
The pan is shaped so that wastes
move by gravity into a channel
running the length of the pan. This
forms a pipe-shaped outlet at the

Adjacent pans are connected
together by large plastic “collars”
(pipes), so that an entire row of
farrowing crates disposal pans are
joined together, and wastes move
through by gravity and then
through a pipe out of the building.
The pans can be hosed from above
to add water to speed the
movement of wastes. An optional
auger waste removal system is
available.
