Twin bulls enter ABS program
DE FOREST, Wise. Divide
and Duplicate, the First pair of
identical twin Holstein bulls
produced by splitting an embryo,
have entered the ABS Progeny
Test Program.
Dr. Paul Miller, Director of Sire
Development at American
Breeders Service, advises that the
13-month-old twins will each be
randomly mated by artificial in
semination, to some 2,000 cows
located in 200 of the ,1,600 New
Generation herds associated wi(h
ABS in its sire proving program.
At the same time, semen from
the two bulls is also available for
use by Holstein breeders and
dairymen through the firm’s
regular outlets.
The most visible non-genetic
differences between DIVIDE and
DUPLICATE are size and color
markings. The difference in size
results from the calves being
carried to birth by different cows.
The twin’s color markings are
similar, but not identical, because
pigment cells within developing
animals do not settle in exactly the
same position.
Jackbuilt Great Divide and
Jackbuilt Duplicate are leased by
ABS from their breeder and owner,
Dick Jackson of Jackson Holsteins,
Boulder, Colo. They are sired by
Sweet Haven Tradition, and result
from an embryo transfer from
their dam Paclamar Gentle Molly-
ET VG-88. Molly is a Glendell out
of Kanzabrook Matt Missy EX-94
4E. Missy, as a 13-year-old,
produced 42,040 pounds of milk and
1,701 pounds of fat in 365 days.

The Vermeer 275 also features
adjustable swath deflectors, a
hydraulically adjustable drawbar
to vary cutting heights and offset,
plus a unique PTO-drive system
that spans the top of the entire
cutting frame and reduces power
transmission stress through the
mower bed. A minimum 65 hp
tractor is recommended.
The 275 conditioner attachment
is adjustable to suit specific
windrow preferences. Also, the
contra-rotating steel roller and
rubber vane roller are adjustable
to suit varying crops or crop
conditions. The unit is driven
through a double chain drive
system with shear bold. (The
conditioner can also be equipped
with a system that utilizes bruising
comb and single rotor with flails).
