The annual meeting is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, at the Bedford Inn in Bedford County. The Pennsylvania State Bred Heifer Sale is planned for April 14th at the Mercer County Fairgrounds, Mercer. Don Koontz is the sale chairman. Heifers are being selected now. Dr. Robert Dreisbach, national meeting chairman, reported on the progress being made for the state club hosting of the 1985 National meeting. The site for the 1985 National Meeting has been changed to the Host Inn #2, Lan caster. One hundred and sixty rooms have been reserved. “So far, it looks pretty good,” Dreisbach stated concerning the proposed schedule. John and Ginger Myers are in charge of arranging commercial exhibits and anyone interested should contact them at 717-359-7542. Companies and bull studs are being solicited for advertising materials, booth space, or meal sponsorships A projected 700 breeders from throughout the states and Canada are expected to attend the meeting Leon Sollenberger reported for the Finance Committee. They are currently working on a budget and preliminary plans are to cut down national advertising and increase local advertising. Sollenberger said that the committee urges members to pay their dues in January, and support the state newsletter, the Jerseyletter. The Area Representative to the American Jersey Cattle Club, David Parkinson, announced plans to select the cattle from the Smokey Hill herd of Roy Watson, Columbia Cross Roads. The sale is scheduled for July 14th at the Troy Fairgrounds. “This could be one of the “MASTER FARMER FERTILIZERS” in co-operation with the Penn-State Extension Service, is again pre senting a series of evening meetings pertaining to our Major crops. We have attempted to develop a schedule of interest, with capable and knowledgable speakers. We sincerely hope you will find the time and interest to attend some or all of these meetings. The banquet, featuring a delicious variety of all Penn sylvania produced foods, will follow the annual business meeting of the farm organization council. Over 60 farm and agribusiness associations and groups are members of the State Council of Farm Organizations which will meet to elect officers and set policy for 1984. Guest speaker at the banquet is Henry Schriver, an Ohio farmer and humorist who is a veteran of over 1,900 speaking appearances throughout the country. Schriver has a broad background of solid achievement as a farmer, a Franklin conservation elections CHAMBERSBURG - Glenn Dice, Chambersburg, was re elected Chairman of the Franklin County Conservation District at its recent reorganization meeting. Other officers re-elected were Robert Woods, Fannettsburg, as Vice Chairman, and Donna Hays, Spring Run, as Secretary- Treasurer Ernest Tamer was appointed to serve as Executive Council Representative. Parkinson also reported on the sales of Jerseys throughout the Northeast. “The price of cattle has held steady. I don’t think we will see a large decrease in the price of Jerseys. Andrew Fitz, Waynesboro, was appointed to a four-year term as farmer director and Galen May, St. Thomas, was appointed to a four-year term as urban director Joe Ausherman was appointed to a one-year term as County Com missioner Director John Akers, District Con servationist with the Cham bersburg office of the USDA Soil Conservation Service, gave a report of his office’s activities for the month.
