Gilt sets new record of $2lOO
FARM SHOW The climax of
the 1964 farm Show bred gilt sales
came to 2:30 p.m. on Monday as
the Yorkshire sale began.
The sale of the Champion
Yorkshire added $2lOO to the Ag
Arena Fund and broke the record
for the high-selling gilt at Farm
Show. The previous record was
$l5OO.
This fancy gilt was consigned by
Miller’s Yorkshires of Spring
Grove, York County. The Miller
family donated the proceeds of the
sale of this gilt to the Ag Arena
Fund in memory of Robert “Bob”
Miller. Bob had exhibited hogs at
Farm Show for several years.
Battery Warehouse was the
buyer of the gilt. The company is a
retail outlet for all types of bat
teries, from hearing aid to
bulldozer batteries. This business
represents a new concept in the
sale fo batteries selling direct

4-H Prep Club
Members of the Green Clovers 4-
H Prep Club held two meetings in
December. They worked on
Christmas crafts during the first
meeting. Soldier ornaments were
made for their Christmas tree.
Preppers made pretzel wreaths for
their mothers. Each member also
made a reindeer puppet.
The group baked Christmas
cookies and discussed the meaning
of Hannukah during their second
meeting.

On hand for the sale of the champion Yorkshire gilt, which
set a Farm Show record of $2,100 donated to Ag Arena, are,

The firm has stores in State
College, Lewistown, Shamokin
Dam, Williamsport, Philadelphia
and have other franchises
available. The owners feel that a
large percentage of their business
is derived from the agricultural
community in these areas. The
purchase of this gilt was one way to
show their appreciation to their
customers.
The Reserve Champion
Yorkshire, also consigned by the
Miller family sold to Brooks End
Farm of Beavertown for $1725, also
a recuui-oreaking price. Brooks
End Farm is also a producer of
purebred Yorkshires. Mark Stehr
and Reno Thomas of brooks End
felt that this gilt was a very high
quality hog. They also wished to
support the Miller family after
they donated the Champion gilt in
support of the Ag Arena.
Fifty-five York gilts brought
$20,550 for a $374 average.
TTie grand champion Landrace
gilt, “Sandy 3”, consigned by

Valleys, was sold to Ceclarous
Farm of Honeygrove for $625. The
reserve champion Landrace,
“Nancy 3,” consigned by Thomas
Arnold of R 7 Lebanon, was sold to
Kenneth Patridge of Canterbury,
Ct. for $425.
Thirty head brought $9,590 for a
$320 average.
The grand champion Hampshire
gilt, “Miss Pride 3,” consigned by
Strawbridge and McCleary,
Stewartstown, was sold to Roy
Palmer of Greensburg, for $6OO.
The reserve champion, “Miss
Trigger 2,” also consigned by
Strawbridge and McCleary, was
sold to Carl Rabenold of R 2 Kutz
town for $585.
Twenty head brought $7,030 for a
$352 average.
The grand champion Duroc gilt,
“Ruby 2,” consigned by Rick
Pfautz, Rl, Stevens, was sold to
Smith Hog Farm, Washington, for
$6OO. The reserve champion, “Tub
Fall,” consigned by Smith Hog
Farm was sold to Rick Pfautz for
$525.
Thirty head brought $11,045 for
an average of $368.
