    Valley Wide Farm tops Centre County DHIA
The Centre County Dairy Herd Improvement Association
held their annual meeting on December 8, 1983, at the Logan
Grange Hall, Pleasant Gap Russell C Seward, County Agent
reported that several County dairymen were honored as
follows
A plaque for the 800 pound highest herd went to Valley
Wide Farm, Spring Mills, RD 2 The herd of 78 cows and
21,400 pounds of milk and 848 pounds fat and 663 pounds
protein

Valley Wide Farm, Spring Mills, R D 2 received a trophy for
Cow No 50 tor high butterfat with 25,639 pounds of milk and
1 247 pounds of fat
Richard & James Graham, Port Matilda, received a trophy
tor Cow No 168 for high milk with 35,857 pounds of milk and
1 175 pounds of fat
A plaque for the highest lifetime production went to Jay
Houser, Spring Mills, RD2, for a cow named Betty who had
258,036 pounds of milk and 9,202 pounds of fat
The award presented to the herd with the lowest Somatic
Cell Count (SCC) average for the year went to Stringers Sand
Ridge, Bellefonte R D 2, for an annual average SCC of 87 000
A new award this year was presented to the cow with the
highest protein went to Joe Hartle, Jr, Bellefonte, RD 4, for a
cow named Ultimat who had 28,345 pounds of milk, 1,130
pounds of fat, and 959 pounds of protein

The high herd in the Centre County DHIA for November
was Valley Wide Farm, Spring Mills, R D 2 The Valley Wide
herd of 78 cows had a rolling herd average of 21,705 pounds
of milk and 849 pounds of butteifat with 87 8 percent days in
milk

Seward County Agent Production ranged from a high of 58 5

In the owner-sampler program there were 19 herds with
757 cows being processed The herds ranged from a high of
51 6 pounds of milk, testing 3 9 percent fat, to a low of 26 1
pounds of milk, testing 4 0 percent fat

D H 1 A produced on a two times a day milking in 305 days or
less (unless otherwise indicated) were in the following herds
