HONESDALE The Wayne
County 4-H Achievement Night,
“Flashback ’83,” was held at the
Honesdale Presbyterian Church
Hall with over 150 4-H members, 4-
H leaders and parents in at
tendance.
“Flashback ’B3” reviewed the
1983 4-H year in Wayne County,
highlighting 4-H County Council
activities, Wayne County Con
servation Camp, 4-H Capon Round
up, 4-H Strawberry Round-up, 4-H
County Picnic, lowa 4-H Ex
change, 4-H Horse Show, 4-H
Tractor Safety Program, 4-H
Camp, 4-H District Dairy Show, 4-
H State Dairy Show and Wayne
County Fair 4-H activities.
A number of Wayne County 4-H
members, 4-H leaders and 4-H
clubs were recognized for their
achievements in the 1963 Wayne
County 4-H Program.
County winners in the 4-H Blue
Form Awards Program were:

The Starrucca Community -
Wilderness Starcrafters 4-H Club
received the 1963 Wayne County
Outstanding 4-H Community Club
Award. The 4-H club leaders are:
Lillian Buck, Scott Soden and
Robert Buck. This 4-H club con
sisted of 18 4-H members that
completed projects in clothing and
textiles, riflery, dairy calf, and
market lambs. This 4-H club was
very active in their community
completing projects such as
roadside clean-up and helping to
reclaim some mining areas by
planting evergreen tress.
The Honesdale Busy Young
Homemakers 4-H Club received
the 1963 Wayne County Out
standing 4-H Home Economics
Gub Award. This 4-H club is,lead
by Joan Smith and has seven ac
tive members. The 4-H projects
completed by the members of this
club were: clothing and textiles,
create a skirt and create with
fabrics. Members also par
ticipated in the Wayne County 4-H
Fashion Revue.
The Cold Springs 4-H
Agricultural Club received the 1983
Wayne County Outstanding 4-H
Agricultural Club Award. 4-H
leaders of this club are: Bob and
Judy Muller, Kathryn Muller,
Judy Crimi, Gladys Jamieson and
Trudy Vail. The 22 club members
completed 4-H projects in rabbits,
market beef, strawberries, dairy,
outdoor flowers, market hogs,
vegetable gardening, entomology,
Adams Co.
Achievement
potatoes, maple syrup, wildlife,
onions, market lambs and indoor
flowers.
This 4-H club was active in
community service projects like
planting flowers at area churches,
cleaning up roadside garbage and
helping at a recent Rabies Clinic.
Members of this club are on dairy
and livestock judging teams, are
active in 4-H County Council ac
tivities and are active at the
Wayne County Fair.
Ilie South Canaan Saddle Gub
received the 1963 Wayne County
Outstanding 4-H Horse Gub
Award. The 23 members of this 4-H
horse club are lead by: Jerry
Hughes, Gerry Hughes, Margaret
Savitz, Ingrid Ostrowski, and
Theresa Pavlack. The 4-H horse
projects completed by this club
included: learning about horses,
novice horseman, tenderfoot,
horseman, junior horseman,
senior horseman and advanced
horseman. This club also helped to
acquire new horse show “jumps”
for the Wayne County 4-H Horse
Show. Members of this 4-H club
were active on the Wayne County
4-H County Council, attended 4-H
Camp Shehaqua and also helped
with the County 4-H Picnic.
The 1983 Outstanding Wayne
County 4-H Girl Award was
presented to Kelly O’Neill. Kelly is
a member of the Pleasant Mount
Go-Getters 4-H Gub where she
currently holds the office of Vice-
President. She also is President of
the Wayne County 4-H County
Council. Kelly has completed 4-H
projects in veal calf raising,
outdoor flowers, photography, fast
foods, fun to bake and stitch an
outfit. She has helped to plan and
conduct the County 4-H Picnic, 4-H
Achievement Night, 4-H County
Council activities, Calf Sale Booth,
aluminum can collection and lowa
4-H Exchange Welcoming Party
Committee.
Kelly has attended 4-H
Winners
Leadership Congress at Penn State
University, Pennsylvania 4-H
Capital Etays at Harrisburg, and
has served as a camp counselor at
4-H Camp Shehaqpa. Kelly is a 1983
graduate of Forest Gty Regional
High School and is currently a
freshman student at Cornell
University studying the pre
veterinarian curriculum. Kelly
was also a winner of an Isabel
Loesch Scholarship in the amount
of 1150.00.
The 1963 Outstanding Wayne
County 4-H Boy Award was
presented to Randy Campbell.
Randy is a member of the Bethany
4-H Community Gub where he
serves as president of that par
ticular club. Randy also serves as
treasurer of the Wayne County 4-H
County Council. He has completed
4-H projects in wood science,
forestry, crafts, small engines,
riflery, rocketry, bicycle,
photography, self-determined
projects, and vegetable gardening.
Randy has been a county award
winner in the Blue Farm awards

Special leadership awards were presented recently at 4-H
Achievement Night. Receiving special honors were Dan
Klinedinst, Heidlersburg, ABC Williams Award; Bonni Bishop,
Gettysburg, Rose Murren Award; Carol Clowney, Gettysburg,
Lois E. Smith, Memorial Award; and Ed Wilkinson, Get
tysburg, Bill Miller Award.

Peters, Idaville; Karl Tyson, New Oxford; Sue Murren,
Hanover and Janet Ludwig. York Springs.

Don Jonas, from the Cold
Springs 4-H Agricultural Club, was
also selected as a recipient of an
Isabel Loesch Scholarship. Don
has completed 11 years in 4-H and
has completed projects in market
hogs, laying flock management,
rocketry, dairy, veterinarian
science, rabbits, wildlife and
forestry. Don has held many of
fices in the Cold Springs 4-H
Agricultural Club and has served
as treasurer and vice-president of
the Wayne County 4-H County
Council. Don is a 1982 graduate of
Honesdale High School and is a
senior student in Radiology
Technology at College
Misericordia, at Dallas.
