BY JOYCE BUPP Staff Correspondent BAIR York County 4-H dairy club members wound up a busy year with awards, a milk promotion movie and an array of tempting covered dish creations for their annual banquet, Nov. 18, at the 4-H center. Highlight of the fourth annual 4- H dairy awards banquet was the presentation of trophies to out standing members from each of the county’s four regional dairy clubs. Named the outstanding senior members for the year were David Krone, Glen Rock, for the Southwest dairy club; Chad Rutter, York; White Rose club; and Lesley King, Delta, Milk and Money club. Outstanding junior member trophies went to Matt Kessler, York, of the White Rose club, Lisa Kilgore, Airville, representing the Milk and Money club, Jenelie Boyer, York, Central dairy club, and Downa Doll, Glen Rock, Southwest. Four first-timers in dairy project work took home outstanding rookie honors. Selection of Milk and Money rookies resulted in a tie between Tim Fitzgerald, Delta, and Randy Gross, Airville. Central club’s award went to Annie Rauhauser, Dover, and the winner from the Southwest club was Shannon Doll, Glen Rock. Presented awards for first place in the junior dairyman’s contest, held during the 4-H fair, were Edwina Johnson, Airville, in the senior division, and Rich Bupp, Seven Valleys, junior division. Recipients in the showmanship division were Jenelie Boyer, York, Jana Beth Fantom, Delta, and Mike Welsh, East Berlin. Welsh earned a second cer tificate as senior winner in the fitting category, along with Angie Shoemaker, Dover, and junior winner Kimberly McCleary of Stewartstown. Winners in breed competition at the dairy roundup were recognized during the awards presentations. Holstein breed honors at the roundup went to David King, with the senior and grand champion, C.E. Hubbard HI, reserve senior and grand, Bridgette Boyer, junior champion, and Lesley King, reserve junior champion. David Krone took the top spots in the Brown Swiss exhibits, winning the junior, senior and grand champion awards. All three reserve honors were won by Mike Welsh. Senior and grand champion in the Guernsey show brought recognition to Paul Rauhauser, and Jenelle Boyer exhibited the reserve place senior champion. Chad Rutter’s entries claimed the junior and reserve junior, as well as the reserve grand awards. Jersey awards were split bet ween Sue Eisenhart, exhibiting the junior, senior, reserve and grand champions, and Andrea Kauffman with the reserved junior and senior entries. Participants in a variety of state, national and regional contests also received recognized during the program. Three dairy bowl teams par ticipated in regional competition.
