4, as they captured the grand
champion ewe and ram in the
National Shropshire Show.
Hie National Shropshire Show
was held In conjunction with the
Keystone International Livestock
Exposition at the Farm Show
Complex.
Among stiff competition the
young sheep breeders continually
placed high with their prized
Shropshires. Their Shropshire’s
winnings included: first placed
exhibitor's flock, third placed
junior ram, second placed pair of
ram lambs, first placed ram one
year and under two, grand
champion ram; fourth placed ewe

And with a full compliment of
these superior sheep, the Fleener’s
captured the Governor’s trophy for
the group class consisting of one
yearling ram, two ram lambs, two
yearling ewes, two ewe lambs, and
all bred and owned by the
exhibitor.
The Fleener’s are no strangers
to the Keystone International
Livestock Exposition. This is the
third year they have competed as a
team since they wed, prior to their
marriage they competed as in
dividuals in the show.
“Showing was a family effort,”
explained Sarah, giving credit to
her parents, Clyde and Dorothy
Brubaker.

The Fleeners live on Sarah’s
grandparent’s 56 acre farm on
Harrisburg Pike, where they raise
two breeds of sheep, Shropshire
and Hampshire.
In Hampshire competition that
same day, the Fleeners made a
good showing. Their winnings in
the Hampshire Show included:
third place ram lamb, fourth place
ewe fall lamb, fifth place pen of
three ewe lambs, first place ewe
one year and under two, and
reserve champion ewe.
