    UNIVERSITY PARK - On Dec.
14 and 15, the Department of Dairy
and Animal Science at Penn State
will be hosting the Penn State
Dairy Computer Conference. This
conference will be held at the
Keller Conference Center on the
University Park campus.
The purpose of this conference is
to give interested people a further
understanding of computers and
computer software specifically
related to dairymen. A second

Dec. 14 at 1 p.m., Terry Smith from
the Ohio State University will
discuss the Role of Computer on
Dairy Farms. This will be followed
by talks about getting standard
hardware and software from Jud
Heinrichs and Don Mincemoyer.

in Pennsylvania Agriculture. The
trade show will be open until 10
p.m. that day.
On Thursday morning, Dec. 15,
Jud Heinrichs and Larry Muller,
both from Penn State, will discuss
Dairy Management Programs,
followed by Richard Adams
discussion ration balancing and
evaluation programs. Next, on the

program. This will be followed by a
discussion of the Future Role of
Computers in Pennsylvania DHI
by William Heald. Smith will be
finishing up the program, Putting
it All Together-On-Farm Milking-
Feeding and Management.
The afternoon of this second day
will consist of the trade show plus
optional “hands on” session, to
give you a chance to use some of
the program demonstrated during
the conference.
The following “hands on”
session will be offered:
Electronic Spreadsheet
working with spreadsheet
programs demonstrated during
the conference in the area of
Financial and Cash Flow Analysis.
The session also will focus on
additional uses of this program in
making dairy herd management
decisions.
Data base - working with “Data
base” on programs demonstrated
during the conference in the area

Ration Balancing - working with
the Penn State Ration Balancing
and Ration Evaluation programs
developed by Dr. Richard Adams,
using an updated Penn State feeds
library.
Herd Management - working
with management programs
demonstrated during the con
ference to allow insight on what
can be done with the available
software from Penn State and
private sources.
Milking Equipment Sizing -
working with program developed
by Stephen Spencer in the area of
bulk tank sizing, using heat ex
changers, and milker pump sizing.
