Seidel tops Berks 4-H swine roundup

LEES PORT Charles Seidel,
R 1 Lenhartaville, a veteran 4-H’er
in the showring with his prize
winning pigs, took the Grand
Championship in the market
classes at the annual Berks County
4-H Swine Roundup.
Held at the Leesport Auction, the
county roundup featured SO hogs
with 28 exhibitors. “These
exhibitors ought to be
congratulated on bringing out this
type of quality to a roundup,"
stated Matt Parsons, hog specialist
at Penn State and judge.
The champion pig of Charles
Seidel commanded toe high bid of
$5.00 per round at the sale held that
evening. The successful bidder for
the champion. Weavers Farm
Market, Sinking Spring, supported
the club throughout toe sale and
added 8 more pigs to their total
purchase.
The Reserve Grand Champion
hog was exhibited by Greg
Strieker, El Bernville, and sold for
$1.50 per pound to Hatfield
Packing. Hatfield’s purchased 14
head and helped to bring the sale
average up to 80 cents on the 50
pig?
