In the 4-H division of the Pennsylvania All-American Invitational Youth Dairy Judging
Contest, the Pennsylvania team won first place by amassing a total of 1748 points out of

Judging Forum announced
HARRISBURG - Outstanding
youth dairymen from Cumberland
and Blair Counties were named the
top judges during the Ninth
Pennsylvania 4-H and FFA Dairy
Judging Forum held at the Penn
sylvania All-American Dairy
Show.
John Stamy IV, a 4-H’er from
Cumberland County, garnered 355
points out of a possible 400 points in
individual competition for first
place in a field of 50 contestants.
Placing second through fifth in
the contest were Todd Cauffman,
Perry County; Jonathan Hash,
York County: and Roger Sherwood
and Brad Ludwick, both of Warren
County.
The Warren County 4-H team
composed of Sherwood, Ludwick
and Chns & Tim Curtis took honors
in team competition with a score of
1020 out of a possible 1200 points.
They were followed by the Perry
County contingent with 1012
points; the York County team with
998; the Somerset 4-H’ers with 952;
and the Cumberland County 4-H
team with 950. There were 11
teams participating.
Meanwhile, Shawn Wyles of
Roaring Springs, Blair County,
representing the Northern Bedford
Chapter of the Future Farmers of
America, took honors in that
division with a score of 351.
Placing second through fifth in
the competition were Phil Eby,
Cloister FFA, Ephrata, Lancaster
County, 346 points; Ross Her
shberger, Northern Bedford FFA,
340 points; Kim Lott, Apple City
FFA, Adams County, 339 points;
and Jeff Martin, Cloister FFA,
with 338 points.
The Northern Bedford F’FA team
took overall honors in competition
against nine other teams. The
group, composed of Jim Clapper,
New Enterprise, and both Erie
Corle and Shawn Wyles from
Roaring Springs, compiled a score
of 983 to best the second place
team, Cloister FFA which
amassed 979 points. Placing third
through fifth were Twin Valley
FFA, 950 points; Mansfield FFA,
948 points; and Troy FFA, 926
points.
The contestants judged seven
classes of dairy cattle, featuring
some of the best of 1615 animals in
the nation on exhibit at the All'
American Dairy Show. This in
cluded five cow classes and two
heifer classes. A quiz on dairy-herd
management was also ad
ministered and counted toward an
individual’s total score.

When Solanco's Mark Welk placed first in FFA State Days
dairy judging competition at Penn State this summer, his FFA
advisor, Arba Henry was selected as coach for the team.
