The 10th annual Maryland
Shorthorn calf sale, featuring
some 30 head of purebred and
crossbred calves, is set for Oct. 15
at the Frederick Fairgrounds.
Sponsored by the Md. Shorthorn
Association Inc., the sale will begin
at 7 p.m. Consignments come from
leading Md. and Va. Shorthorn
herds and consist of quality calves
suitable for junior projects for 1984
shows. The steers are purebred or
crossbred Shorthorns and the
heifers are all purebred and
eligible for registry in the
American Shorthorn Association
herdbook.
Consignors include the Maryland
herds of Holly Hill Farms,
Ijamsville; Levena Acres,
Myersville; T.C. Jenkins, Owings
Mills; Edwin A. Hevner, Union
Bridge; Raymond E. Ediger,
Frederick; Tom Deßerry,
Oakland; and several Virginia
breeders.
Calves sold in the association’s
former sales have an excellent
record of winnings at Maryland
and Virginia shows. At the recent
Frederick Fair, both the champion
and the reserve champion Shor
thorn steers and the reserve
champion crossbred steer, a
Shorthorn cross, were purchased
in the 1982 sale. Shorthorn
champion steers and heifers at
several Virginia fairs, including
Loudon County, at the Washington
County Ag-Expo, and at the
Virginia Eastern Shore Agri-Fair
came from this sale.
