4-H’ers Raise Money
RED LION - The Glen Hock and
Loganville 4-H Clubs have raised
more than $7OO for the Ronald
McDonald House in Hershey. The
Ronald McDonald House is a home
where families from all over
Central Pennsylvania can stay
while their children are receiving
treatment at the Milton S. Hershey
Medical Center.
The first Ronald McDonald
House was founded by the
Philadelphia Eagles football team
and the owners of McDonald’s
restaurants. There are now 55
Ronald McDonald Houses across
the country and 20 on the drawing
board.

4-H Judges Win
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland’s “A” team swept to an
easy victory in a field of 11 state 4-
H teams participating in livestock
judging competition recently in
West Springfield, Mass. The event
was held in conjunction with the
annual Eastern States Exposition.
In addition to the over-all
championship, Maryland was first
in beef and swine judging, as well
as in oral reasons. The team
placed fifth in sheep judging. It
finished 51 points ahead of the
second-place Ohio team.
Wool Contest Scheduled
WEST CHESTER - The District
Make It With Wool Contest will be
held at the Chester County Ex
tension Office on October 12 at 7:30
p.m. The purpose of the contest is
to focus the attention on the beauty
and versatility of wool and to
encourage the use of wool or yarn
in sewing and knitting fashionable
garments.
The contest is open to preteens,

Zoning difficulties have been
overcome and construction is to
begin this fall or spring, with
opening set for 1985.
The estimated cost for the House
in Hershey is $750,000. So far,
$415,000 has been raised. The two
local 4-H clubs raised $741.71 by
gathering sponsors and donors for
a dance-a-lhon and by manning a
booth at the 4-H Fair last summer.

Among individual contestants,
Maryland team member Geoffrey
Ruppert, 17, Friendship, Frederick
County, placed first in the over-all
standings. Jeff Hitchcock, 18,
Laytonsville, Montgomery County,
was fourth, and Jeffrey S. Hevner,
17, Johnsville, Frederick County,
finished seventh.
Maryland youth teams had
previously won the 4-H livestock
judging competition at West
Springfield for five consecutive
years, 1976-1960. They finished
second in 1981 and third last year.
juniors, seniors and adults ages 1U
and above. Professionals in sewing
fields are not eligible. Local
winners will be eligible for state
and national competition.
