Top dairy breeders display their ‘wares’ I Langel’s hobby earns him Ayrshire championship BY LAURA ENGLAND HARRISBURG - A retired Ohio dairyman, who shows cattle as a hobby, walked off with top honors in the Eastern National Ayrshire Show, Wednesday, at the Farm Show Building. Nelson Langel, owner of the senior and grand champion female, sold his 95-head Ayrshire herd last June and retired from fanning. Marie, owned by Nelson and Laura Langel of Scotch Haven Farms, Kirkersville, Ohio, is a 6- year-old sired by Oak Ridge Flashy Classic. Langel, who’s been farming for 60 years, showed Marie at the Eastern Ayrshire Show in 1982 and won reserve grand champion. In capturing the grand title this year, he said his champion has developed and matured more during the past year.
