Last year’s winners recapture awards at Solanco Fair

QUARRYVILLE - This year’s
Holstein Dairy Show at the Solanco
Fair Thursday was much like last
year’s event. Once again, Maurice,
Paul and Mark Welk walked away
with the show.
A two-year-old, owned by
Maurice and Paul Welk was Grand
Champion, and a three-year-old,
owned by Mark Welk was Reserve
Champion.
The Welk-Crest Farm,
Wrightsdale, won last year’s
Grand Champion with a different
cow, but the Reserve Champion
was the same cow that won last
year. They have been showing at
the fair since 1977.
The Welk’s Grand Champion is

producing 80 pounds of milk per
day after her first calf.
The Grand Champion two-year
old also won Senior Champion, and
the Reserve three-year-old also
won Reserve Senior Champion.
A cow owned by Maurice and
Paul Welk won first in the best
udder class, while cows owned by
Paul Welk took first in both the
best three female class and the
dairy herd class.
Mark Welk was also Grand
Champion of the junior exhibitors.
The Junior Champion went to
Kelly Miller, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Kenneth Miller, Christiana
Rl, who also won Reserve
Champion of the junior exhibitors.
