Tested Boar Sale, held Tuesday at
the Delaware State Fairgrounds,
was characterized by generally
weak prices, according to
Delaware Extension Livestock
Specialist, Ken Kephart. The sale,
sponsored by the Delaware Pork
Producers Association in
cooperation with the Delaware
Cooperative Extension Service is
designed to provide pork
producers with sires of known

on the performance tested boais.
Kephart reported a sale total of
$6065, with a sale average of $357
for the 17 boars sold.
All boars sold were performance
tested on the same criteria. All the
boars were fed for rapid growth
under test conditions. The boars
were five to seven months of age.

stipulated that all boars sold must
have an index of 90 or more points,
a soundness score of 2 or more, and
an underline score of 2 or more.
The average boar of this group
was indexed at 100 points. (If a
boar is indexed at 120, it is con
sidered to be 20 percent better than
the average boar tested.)
Scoring was done by a com
mittee of six, as boars came off
lest, according to the National
Swine Improvement Federation
recommendations, using a range
of 1 to 3, with 3 being ideal.

fed 4-6 pounds of feed on the floor
daily and allowed to run on a
runway beside other boars, to
increase their aggressiveness,
sexual maturity, hardiness,
soundness, and desire to breed.
Listed in the accompanying
table are the more critical values
of the top 10 selling boars in the
sale. Buyers were given additional
data for each of the boars, in
cluding, starting weight, number
of litter mates, gam raio. fat ratio.

consigned by Franklin Feeser, of
Taneylown, Md. The four Hamp
shire boars, sired by Mountain
Boy, brought a total of 11575, and
