Sire Power open house next Saturday
TUNKHANNOCK - This year’s
Sire Power Open House is
scheduled for next Saturday from
10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sire
Power Headquarters in
Tunkhannock.
Outstanding sire proofs, new
personnel, and a top-notch speaker
will highlight this year’s activities.
John O. Almquist, retired
professor of dairy physiology at
Penn State, will be the main
speaker for the afternoon
program. Almquist has been
conducting research at Penn State
since 1944, when he was appointed
to the faculty. By 1950, his modest,
one-room research laboratory had
developed into a greatly expanded

With the movement into the computer age increasing, farmers are realizing the
usefulness of computers in decision making processes. Farmers are beginning to in
vestigate computers in terms of economic value and question their time saving ad
vantages. Helping farmers find their answers was the purpose of a computer demon
stration at Ag Progress Days. Here, William England, a Blair County dairyman, from
Williamsburg, explains how he is using a computer for record keeping purposes. Also
new to the computer age, England purchased a computer in February and with the help
of Extension personnel and through his own research is developing programs geared to
his 150-head Holstein operation.
