New sale record at Union Co. West End Fair
LAURELTON - The Union
County West End Fair enjoyed
another successful Junior
Livestock Sale. The 54 animals
belonging to Union Counties 4H
and FF A members reached a new
sales record of over $15,200.00. This
new record surpassed last year’s
record sale by more than $2,300.00.
In the market steer category the
975 lb. Grand Champion Steer
exhibited by Crystal Zechman
brought $1.21 a lb. and was pur
chased by Dean Metzger of Met
zger’s Custom Butchering, Win
field. Reserve Champion Steer was
exhibited by Crystal Knechel and
was purchased by Ezra Yoder of
Rock Oak Country Kitchen for
$1.13 a lb.
In the marKet hog division the
Grand Champion was exhibited by
David Murphy, R.D. #l, Millmont.
Murphy’s champion 215 lb. FFA
hog was purchased by the Hatfield
Buying Station, Danville, for $2.10
a lb. Tn-County Bank, Mifflmburg,
purchased the Reserve Champion
Hog from Rodney Walter for $1.15
alb.
4H member Patti Snook walked
away with both top honors in the
lamb category. Patti’s 113 and 115
lb. Suffolk Cross lambs captured
both the Grand Champion and
Reserve Champion Lamb honors.
The Grand Champion was sold to
Clifford Valentine of the
Lewisburg office of Farm Credit
Service for $2.55 a lb. while the
Reserve Champion was sold to
Byerly Brothers Meats for $2.25 a
lb.
In all, this year’s sale included 13
steers, 27 hogs, and 14 lambs. Each

purchased by Byerly Brothers Meats for $258.75. Mifflinburg for $261.05.
