The Tools Of Farming
The laborious task of planting crops was beginning to show signs of
mechanization in the 1800's with the introduction of planting drills.
__ Seeds were punched into the ground by a revolving
- cylinder with holes in its surface. These types of
"drills", or planters, were either pushed
„ forward using manpower or were pulled
A through the rows by horses. By 1900, six to
ten acres per day could be planted with
rte help of these primitive machines.
\ -
Today a farmer can plant in excess of
100 acres a day in the high plains with
the use of modern air seeders.
Since 1896, Old Guard has planted itself squarely behind
the American Farmer, up-dating protection to fill his
r > expanding needs.
