Paul Espy’s Green Ridge Beef Farms, Plowing banquet speaker set YORK Frank W. Naylor, assistant secretary of Small Community and Rural Develop ment, will be the featured speaker for the national plowing contest banquet on Friday, Aug. 12. The deep-pit beef banquet is part of the three-day plowing session to be hosted August 11-13 at the York 4-H Center and John Shearer farm near Spring Grove, featuring competition at local, state and national levels. Local competition is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, August 11, with the state contest at 10 a.m. the following day. The program, beginning at 6 p.m., will include a tour of the Espy Farm, located on Route 45 between Water Street and Spruce Creek, featuring the modem begin Saturday, August 13, with the small plow category entries going into action at 9 a.m. A national antique plow division starts at noon, followed by the national large plow competition at 2 p.m. While there is no admission fee to the contest, spectators will be charged a $l.OO per vehicle parking fee. Tickets are available for the 7 p.m. banquet at the Center Friday evening, and can be obtained from the York Chamber of Commerce office, 13 Market Way Blast, at a cost of $12.50 per person. ANY LENGTH UP TO 40 FEET cut tothe inch feedlot from which over 1000 cattle are marketed each year. Visitors to the farm will also see the type of cattle fed, rations, and facilities and can view a special exhibit of cattle, pulled from the pens, which have widely varying rates of gain even when fed the same rations. Also, a demonstration on pumping liquid manure will be featured. Emphasized here will be the preservation of maximum plant nutrients by injecting manure into the soil.
