WEST CHESTER - The Chester
County Agricultural Development
Council (ADC) has begun an
employment service to help
commercial fanners, growers,
and agribusinesses locate qualified
employees. The ADC calls the new
service, the Farmer Development
Service.
“The mission of the Ag
Development Council is to keep
farming in Chester County. To do
this, farming must be kept healthy
and profitable,” says council
member, Bob Solomon. "The
Farmer Development Service is
one aspect of a broad program
directed toward the retention of
farmland and fanning."
Labor management is an im
portant component of a healthy
farm operation. According to
Solomon, the purpose of the ser
vice is to help farmers improve the
overall management of their
operation through better labor
management.

Through the Farmer Develop

information and consultation on
labor management problems, such
as, how to hire, who to hire, how to
motivate, tram, and retain em

through the Service to help far

with these problems. In addition
the Service’s personnel will lend
assistance in dealing with labor
regulations and regulatory
agencies (OaHa, vVuiKineiis
Compensation, Minimum Wage,
etc.).
The Farmer Development
Service has established an
agricultural worker file containing
applications from people
specifically looking tor work m
agriculture and agribusiness.
Each application lists the ap
plicant's work experience, skills,
and education.
