    Church group opposes Narvon dump
NARVON In response to the
petition of the Session of the Cedar
Grove Presbyterian Church, East
Earl, regarding the proposed
conversion of the Narvon Mine into
a hazardous waste disposla
facility, the Presbytery of Donegal
hereby expresses its opposition to
the establishment of such a
facility.
A harzardous waste facility in
eastern Lancaster County would
present the community with
potential medical problems and
economic hardship, and would
threaten the agricultural
character of the community.
As Christians we are concerned
with stewardship, which asks bow
well we have watched over that
which God has placed in our care.
We maintain that when we poison
the earth, rendering it useless for
future generations, we have not
well cared for it
We see in this matter a concern
larger than one of “We don't want
it here • put it somewhere else.”
Tms issue calls into question the
whole matter of the production of
products and materials whose by
products require the poisoning of
the earth. If the costs of disposing
of these products by any means
other than simply dumping them
into the ground is too high, then the
cost of the products themselves is
too high. Therefore we call for
intensive efforts on the parts of
govenment and industry to find
suitable alternatives to dumping,
and to establish economic in
centives for the use of such
alternatives as presently exist.
The Presbytery of Donegal
opposes the whole concept of
hazardous waste dumping,
