Time To Defrost
LANCASTER Home freezers
are probably near empty now
waiting for the start of a new
growing season. Now is a good
time to defrost your freezer, if it
isn’t automatic defrost model.

Depending on climate, humidity
and usage, your freezer may need
defrosting oqly once a year. So
long as the frost is less than one
half-inch thick and looks like snow,
it can be easily and quickly
removed. A complete cleaning and
frost removal is recommended at
least once a year.
At least twice a year you should
clean dust from the coils according
to your owner’s manual. At this
time look for any changes that may
have occurred such as unusual
noises, vibrations, oil leaks or
loose wires. Air circulation around

postmark until February 13, 1984

refrigerator cord; make sure it fits
snugly into the electrical outlet.
Loose plugs can easily be bumped
and fall out unnoticed. Freezers
are very dependable mechanical
devices, yet they do fail.
Preventive maintenance'will help
reduce the likelihood of failure.
After removing all the frost,
thoroughly clean the interior, door,
and door gasket with warm water
and baking soda (one teaspoon
baking soda per quart of warm
water). Although no-frost freezers
defrost automatically, it's still a
good idea to remove the food and
give the no-frost freezer a thorough
cleaning. After cleaning, rinse
with clear water and wipe dry.
