MARKET COMMENT: Prices
higher. Carton egg movement
overall is no better than fair, with
several dealers reporting orders as
below average. Promotional ac
tivity still generates a fanly good
call, but interest to feature is
dwindling. Many dealers are
pessimistic in regards to
movement as higher retail prices,
lack of features and hot weather
will all contribute to a lighter
demand. Jumbos and extra targe
are tight. Graded large are
adequate to ample with excess
stocks easily available. Mediums
are ample as production from new
flocks is more than sufficient plus
additional offerings are noted from
the midwest. Smalls are irregular
but ample over all. The undertone
is no more than steady.

± 6 eggs = Profit/Loss
According to Waymon Halbrook, University of Arkansas
Agricultural Economist, in todays poultry economy the difference
between losing and making money on your flock could be in the
last Vz dozen eggs each hen in your house produces. DeKalb
layers are consistently leading the competition in total profit
performance which includes egg numbers. What are you basing
your next pullet chick order on? A penny or two savings on chick
cost? OR 25' per pullet housed on egg income? That's $15,000
on a 60,000 bird house. YOU BE THE JUDGE!

Delmarva Poultry

Report supplied by USDA
Market Comment: Ready-to
cook movement on whole birds is
fair to fairly good with clearances
reported as satisfactory in most
quarters. Parts are moving failry
well overall but legs and, to some
degree, breasts are available in
spots off the shore. LTL askings
prices are unchanged at
cents. Slaughter schedules are'
moderate. Large supplies are fully
adequate. Weights are generally
desirable although an occasional
plant is noting lighter than desired
weights. The recent hot weather
has shown noting lighter than
desired weights. The recent hot
weather has shown no adverse
effects on production at this time.
Under tone steady.
