his cows receive no fermented
feeds. “You can control the but
terfat better by staying on dry
feeds”, he concluded. Every ration
is mixed individually and bloat
guard is fed constantly. A
nutritionist also visits once a week
to rebalance the rations as needed.
Doebenener states, “We breed for
test, and we feed for test”, when
summing up the feeding program.
“When you’re milking these kind
of cows, it’s not how fast you milk,
it’s how much milk you can get
with as little trouble”, Doeberiener
states. He uses Bodmin Nu-Pulse
machines where all the vacuum to
the pulsator goes through the milk
line. Although these machines are
often criticized for being too slow
or making too much noise,
Doebenener says the machine is
very simple and a “good
machine”. “As far as udder health
goes, I don’t think you can beat this
machine”, he says.
