Summer fun
in the kitchen
Kids, summer vacation is almost
here. This means almost three
months of fun in the sun. But if the
weather continues, it may also
mean many rainy days. For those
days when the rain stops outside
fun, find a little inside fun in
Mom’s kitchen.
4 eggs
2c. firmly packed brown sugar -
IT. water
2 c. sifted cake flour
1/81. salt
11. baking powder
11. cinnamon
1 c. tiny mixed gumdrops, fresh
l /2 c. nuts
Beat eggs until light. Add brown
sugar gradually and water.
Continue beating until blended.
Add flour, which has been sifted
with salt, baking powder and

cinnamon.
Spread batter l h inch thick in
greased, floured pan. Bake in 350
degree oven for 30 minutes.
Cut into squares. Makes about 18
to 24 bars.
COCONUT BUTTER CHEWS
% c. butter
% c. shredded coconut
3 egg whites, beaten
powdered sugar
2V« c. firmly packed brown sugar
3 T.sugar
\ l h c. sifted enriched flour
3 egg yolks, beaten
1 c. chopped nuts
Cream butter; add white sugar,
and blend with flour. Pat in bottom
of greased pan.
Bake m 350 degree oven for 15
minutes.
Add brown sugar to beaten egg
yolks. Add nuts and coconut. Stir in
stiffly beaten egg whites and
spread over first mixture. Return
to oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
Dust with powdered sugar. Cut
any desired size.
