approved 14 non-USDA
laboratories to. run
contagious equine
metritis CEM tests
on imported horses.
John K. Atwell,
deputy administrator of
USDA’s Animal and
Plant Health Inspection
Service, said the East
Coast laboratories are
in Maryland, New
Jersey, New York,
Virginia. They are
authorized to perform
diagnostic tests for the
disease under USDA
quarantine regulations.
“This action reduces
the expense and dif-
