When impregnated on the fertilizer and surface applied at planting, both materials gave promising results. le im weed “What we’re after is more ef fective weed control, for no-till com,” Uniatowski says. “We want to find out whether there’s a place for PPI herbicides in the no-till situation. In their study, Uniatowski and Mitchell compared the per formance of Sutan/Atrazine on KCI, Lasso/Atrazme on KCI, Lasso/Atrazine spray, Sutan/Atrazine spray, plus an untreated control. Each treatment went on seven different surfaces— bare ground, and one-, two- and three-ton layers each of com stubble and oat cover. Each t*. ■Jft Any Size treatment was used with and without irrigation. Though not conclusive, the 1982 trials showed that—no matter how applied—Lasso and Sutan + were equally effective under irrigation. As a spray, Sutan/Atrazine per formed better on the two- to three ton covers, while the Lasso/Atrazine blend did better when sprayed on bare ground or a one-ton cover. However, the same herbicides, when impregnated on fertilizer and applied, were more effecitve than either spray. More work needs to be done before recommendations can be made, but Uniatowski says in- (Turn to Page 025) Mage Pit Walls lanure Pit Walls etaining Walls Storage
