KENNETT SQUARE - Penn
sylvania’s overall leading breeder
of thoroughbreds in 1982 was
George Strawbridge Jr., whose
Augustin Stable homebreds last
year earned $380,571.
Strawbridge, of Cochranville,
Chester County, was honored by
Pennsylvania Horse Breeder’s
Association at its fourth annual
Iroquois Awards Banquet on
Thursday at Longwood Gardens,
Kennett Square. '
Strawbridge has bred and raced
an extraordinary number of flat
and steeplechase stakes winners
and has headed the list of U.S.
steeplechase owners for eight of
the past nine years. His trainer,
Jonathan Sheppard of West Grove,
Chester County, has led all
trainers every season since 1973.
PHBA’s award for the breeder of
the leading Pennsylvania-bred
money winner went to C. Thomas
Fuller, breeder of Ambassador of
Luck, a winner of $166,972 in 1982
and $232,141 in two years of racing.
