Turnpike damaging farm land and accepted new cooperators at its recent meeting. Limited amounts of Crown Vetch seed will be available to non-profit and public organizations on a first come, first-served basis. The seed was obtained through a cooperative effort with the Bureau of Soil and Water Conservation and PennDOT. Kulp, Pottstown, Chairman of the District, said. “Municipalities should be using vegetative protection when they rebuild highways. The highway departments should be using Crown Vetch and other mulching methods to protect road shoulders during and after the construction, period,” Kulp said. The Conservation District is advocating the use of no-till and minimum-till conservation systems to reduce the amount of soil movement on a fanner’s fields as well as reduce or eliminate the soil loss to neighboring property.
