Her buyer Howard Hammond 111, Concord Ridge Farm of Cony, was represented by Jay Gooch of Coudersport. Emy was consigned by William Lasher and family, Catskill, N.Y. Emy freshened in January, and her heifer calf, sired by Persuader, sold immediately after her for $3700. The Garden Spot Sale had a sale total of 187,250, with a sale average of |l7BO for the 49 head sold. Top selling animal was a heifer, Skyline Valiant Marilyn, at $4200. Her dam, Maple-Lawn Elevation was rated as VG,BB-syr. She was born March 9, 1981 and was bred Sept. 82 to Sexation. Marilyn was consigned by Nelson Meyers of Greencastle. Her buyer, Harold Whittier, Whittier Farms, of Sutton, Mass, is well-known as a Holstein breeder. Whittier is the breeder of Whittier Farms Apollo Rocket, sold to ABC. The sale total for all three sales combined was $219,350, with a sale average of $2109 for the 104 head sold. The Sunny-Craft sale was a complete dispersal of Stauffer’s herd. Barbara said it seemed it was the right time for them to sell, thinking that they were at a break even point. They had to decide to get bigger or sell now. After the sale, the Stauffers plan to review their economic situation and decide where to go from there. Barbara expressed an interest in returning to dairy fanning some time in the future. In the mean time, they plan to plant crops this spring on the farm they lease from Clarence Stauffer, Earl’s father. They also raise 26,000 broilers, for contract five times per year. Stauffer who was elected as president of the Pennsylvania Young Farmers Association in 1981, has been very active in YF activities throughout the state. Claretta Astronaut Emy brought $10,200.
