Chapter of the Future Farmers of
America held its annual banquet
on Friday, March 11 with local
businesses, who have supported
the FFA, and many vo-ag mem
bers, receiving awards for their
support and accomplishments.

Star Agribusinessman and Dave
Wells was Star Farmer.
Receiving Keystone Farmer
Degrees were Gail Ginder, Mike
Pflieger, Ed Sensenich, and
Vemon Heisey. Stephen Hershey
received the American* Farmer
Degree.
Honorary Chapter Farmers
went to Dean Ziegler for letting the
FFA use his truck for hauling the
sweet com crop; Nelson C. Groff
for letting the FFA use his land for
their sweet com crop, and Charles
Bechdel Jr., agriculture teacher.
Citation Awards went to local
businesses in honor of their sup
port of Chapter activities, which
included the Lancaster County
Agricultural Land Preserve Board
for promoting the preservation of
farm land; Windward Farms for
giving scrap metal to raise funds
for the chapter; and Miller’s
Taxidermy for providing wildlife
mounts for the window exhibit.

FFA projects include greenhouse
production, steer and com.

Frank Towner and Mark Welk.
Kris Esbenshade was named
Star Chapter Farmer. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Esbenshade, R 2 Quarryville. Her
projects include dairy calves and
steer and she serves as Chapter
reporter. Chapter degrees went ot
17 second-year members who
completed .the degree
requirements.
Star Greenhand for 1982-83 was
James Shank, son of Mr. and Mrs.
James Shank Jr., R 4 Quarryville.
He was the high fruit salesman in
the freshman class. The
Greenhand Degree went to 37 first
year members.
" Douglas Hershberger was
honored for receiving a 1962
American Farmer Degree. He
formerly served as State FFA
president. His brother Dan
received the degree in 1961. They
are the sons of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Hershberger, R 4
Quarryville. In the past five years,
six Solanco FFA members have
received the national American
Farmer Degree.
