Berks goatherders schedule
cheese workshop
LEESPORT - The Berks
Goatherders are sponsoring a
cheese-making workshop on
Saturday, April 9, from 10 a. m. to 4
p.m. at the Berks County
Agricultural Center, here. Actual
participation and demonstrations
will show how to make a hard
pressed (gouda) cheese, and a soft
(lactic herbed) cheese. Par
ticipants are asked to bring milk
along; either goats milk or cows
milk will be used.
On hand to give instructions will
be Bob and Ricki Carroll, co
owners of the New England Cheese
making Supply Company, Ash
field, Mass., and authors of the bi
monthly newsletter, “The
Cheesemakers’ Journal,” and a
paperback guide to making 60
kinds of cheeses, “Cheesemaking
Made Easy.” There will also be a
slide presentation and a question
and answer period. Cheeses will be
available for sampling and
cheesemaking kits and equipment
will be on sale.
Deadline for enrollment is
March 1 on a first-come - first
served basis. The cost is $25 per
person which includes a catered
lunch. Send your name, address
and check, and indicate if you will
be able to bring milk along and
