Judge tags Limousin champs
DENVER,CoIo. Limousin
enthusiasts watched closely during
the 1963 National Open Limousin
Show, held Jan. 14 during the
National Western Stock Show as
Randall Grooms, Overton, Texas,
judged the 124-head show, assisted
by consulting judge Ed Sutton of
Suwanee, Ga.
MK Lana, a Sept. 2, 1961 747
daughter walked away from the
show with the grand champion
female and junior heifer champion
honors. The heifer is owned by
McKown & Baker Limousin,
Norman, Okla.
Overall reserve grand champion
female was HLF Kiss Me Quick
lON, owned by Ellis-Vantrease,
Blanchard, Okla. The Espoir de
Camaval daughter, calved Feb. 17,
1961, was also the senior champion
of the show.
MK Sonic Jet, a Nov. 16,1980 bull
sired by 747, captured grand
champion and senior champion
honors at the open bull show. Sonic
Jet is owned by Spitz Limousin
Farms, Norman, Okla.; McKown
& Sons Limousin, Norman, Okla.;
and Baker Limousin, McKinney,
Texas.
Capturing the reserve grand
champion open bull title was
YKCC Atlantic owned by Yackley-
CMC & Baker, Onida, S.D.
Atlantic, calved March 27, 1981, is
sired by 747.
On the female side of the open
show, the first champion of the day
was Fanfaron Miss 81 of WAF,
owned by Cheryl Matthews of
Springfield, Mo. The Nov. 3, 1961
Fanfaron daughter was named
champion Limousin heifer calf.
The heifer calf reserve cham
pionship went to a Feb. 19, 1982
Canadian Pacific daughter named
OXNW Belle 773 P. The heifer is
owned by Ox & W Limousin,
Huron, S.D.
LBLN Nightingale 30 N, owned
by Michael Johannsen,
Sutherland, lowa, was reserve
champion female in the junior
division. The Replay daughter was
calved April 30,1981.
The reserve champion senior
heifer title went to Texs Star 878 N,
owned by Sam Scott, Rising Star,
Texas. The March 13, 1981 heifer
was sired by 747.
On the bull side, a March 18,1982
747 son owned by McKown
.Limousin Ranch and Southwest
Cattle Co., Norman, Okla., was
named calf champion of the
national open show. Captain in
Command, the bull calf champion,
was followed by another McKown
entry for reserve. MK Jet Blitz, a
Jan. 22,1982 bull sired by 747, took
reserve champion calf honors.
In the junior bull category,
Sportscaster captured the
championship. The July 6, 1981
Network son is owned by Lazy J
Coyote Hill, Canadian Valley and
JCL Cattle Co. of Welch, Okla.
Reserve champion junior bull was
Spitz Outlaw W 57 N. an Oct. 15,
1981 Innovator son entered by Spitz
Limousin Farms.
In group classes, McKown &
Baker Limousin won the best pair
of heifers class, followed by
Yackley-CMC Cattle Co.
McKown, Worrell, Baker and
Spitz had the best five head; while
Yackley-CMC and London
Limousin captured the pair of bulls
class.
Get of sire went to McKown,
Baker, McCullar and Worrell with
get of 747.

Blanchard, Okla., won reserve grand champion female
honors. The Espoir de Carnaval daughter, calved Feb. 17,
1981, was senior champion of the show.
MK Lana was a double winner in Limousin events at the
1983 National Western Stock Show, as she captured grand
champion female honors in both the open show and the junior
heifer show. The Sept. 2, 1981 “747” heifer was shown by
15-year-old Vernon McKown, Norman, Okla.
MK Sonic Jet, a Nov. 16,1980 son of “747," was slapped
grand champion bull of the 1983 National Open Limousin
Show.
AND
YKCC Atlantic was judged the reserve grand champion bull
of the National Limousin Show. The March 27,1981 bull is a
