Low growing shrubs such as silky dogwood or red osier dogwood provide cover and foil berries for the birds. Larger shrubs and small trees such as hawthorn (or crabaoole), autumn olive, flowering dogwood; and winterberry provide cover, food, and nesting sites few the birds as well as ornamental beauty for your homesite. Clustering these plantings together and varying the heights of the shrubs and trees In each cluster provides an appealing habitat to most songbirds. Annual grains may be grown in a small area of your yard. When the grains mature, tbe'birda will feed on the seeds. Millet, sunflowers, com, and grain sorghum are several grains that provide good feed for wild birds.
