FARM SHOW - Junior
exhibitors guided their breeding
sheep to championship wins
Wednesday morning, as Judge
Richard Cobb of Urbana, Illinois
selected the top future flock
females at Farm Show.
Beginning with the Cheviot
breed, Donna MacCauley of El
Atglen, Chester County tied up
both die champion and reserve
champion honors with her two
entries.
In the Coniedale competition,
Kathy Weaver of R 2 Everett,
Bradford County exhibited the
champion ewe while Berks
County’s Tom Hornberger of K 1
Birdsboro won the reserve
champion title with his ewe.
Barbara Herr of Narvon, Lan
caster County, continued her
championship winning streak with
her Dorset ewe entry. Barb also
had the champion Dorset ewe in
the open competition at Farm
Slow, held Sunday. (See related
story.) The reserve grand
champion Dorset ewe honors went
to York County’s Alicia
Strausbaugh.
The grand champion ewe in the
Hampshire breed is owned by
Junior sheep showman Barbara
McConnell of Volant, Lawrence
County. Katie Hicks of Coatesville,
Chester County claimed the
reserve champion Hampshire
honors with her entry.
Lehigh County’s Leslie Lazarus,
Whitehall, claimed both grand and
reserve grand champion honors
with Ms breeding sheep in the
Rambouillet classes.
And in the Shropshire com
petition, a Lancaster County
brother and sister tied up the top
two honors. Arlisa Snavely,
Lancaster, showed her ewe to the
grand champion title while brother
Matthew showed the reserve grand
champion Shropshire ewe.
Another Lancaster County
sibling team tied up both South
down championships. Gerald and
Barbara Rohrer of HI Quarryville
showed both the grand and reserve
grand champion ewes in the junior
show.
Last but far from least, William
MacCauley of R 1 Atglen, Chester
Scrub-a-dub Southdown
Fifteen-year-old Sue Falvey of Friend's Cove. Bedford
County, sudses her wooly Southdown yearling ewe in
preparation for the junior breeding sheep competition here at
Farm Show. Keeping her sheep’s fleece as white as can be
takes lots of elbow grease and TLC.
Jr. showmen
County, exhibited bis Suffolk ewe
to grand champion honors of the
Suffolk show, while Barbara
McConnell showed her Suffolk ewe
entry to the reserve grand
championship.
