Sam Hayes Jr., who just received his American Degree at the national convention, adressed the group clad in his FFA jacket Hayes referred to the convention motto “ 1 want to live.” “ You must do more than just live and I know you will,” he said. Pennsylvania and American depends on how you live.” Dean Sam Smith of Penn State’s College of Agriculture, told the assembled FFA'ers that they not only have an opportunity to be tomorrow’s leaders, but also a responsibility “People talk about the problems of today, but as I travel across the state and nation, I see an optimism and cussed determination to keep our agriculture the best in the world,” Smith said. “The decade of the 00’s wul have as its greatest strength this country’s ability to be an efficient producer of food and fiber.” And all the way from Mississippi came Bryan Stamps, National FFA Vice President for the Southern Region. He likened people to cars. “We’re like autos in the way we operate,’’ he said. “Some of us can take hills Without a groan. “Others can only go downhill. “And when we have problems, you hear knocking and that comes from our attitudes.” He called on his fellow FFA’ers to always fine tune their attitudes to make certain they are positive in nature.
